Sixth Form welcomes the Oxford University Debating Team

On Wednesday, 19th September, Bangkok Prep Sixth Form welcomed the Oxford University Debating Team. After an introductory assembly to tell students how to prepare for interviews and what to put in a personal statement, all of KS5 participated in a debating workshop to focus on the following statement: This House Believes that developed countries should provide foreign aid for developing countries.

The Oxford University Debating Team were very impressed with the quality of ideas produced by our students, with the climax of the day resulting in our very own student debate. A fiercely fought contest took place between the proposition and opposition, with both teams using the majority of the allotted time to share their thoughts and opinions to build a case outlining the problem.

Overall, this was an excellent and enlightening way to spend a morning, with high levels of engagement and many student questions answered by the help of the Oxford Union team. I’d like to thank the Oxford students: Chris Garner, Isabella Risino and Chris Zabilowicz for their efforts in delivering the sessions, as well as all of the Sixth Form students for their active participation, along with the Sixth Form team and other staff for assisting with the smooth running of the day.
