Message from the Head of Secondary – 2nd November 2018

Dear Students, Parents and Colleagues,

We welcomed many parents into school this week, firstly for the Parent Workshop on New Report Changes. This was to explain the changes we have introduced to ensure that parents and students are given more reliable and actionable information. Later in the day we than had our Y9 and Y11 Options Sessions which gave even more information on the courses on offer at IGCSE and A level, when they enter Y10 and Y12 respectively. We have added a number of new subjects to our curriculum to ensure students can match their growing interests. We are very aware that all students are different and success in studying is rooted in interest and motivation. The opportunity to specialise and follow interests is at the core of our Sixth Form programme.

If you were in school on Monday afternoon you would have been very impressed with the work FoBP had undertaken to prepare the school for their Halloween social events. FoBP had worked with student leaders to find out what the students wanted and arranged for a ghoulish disco in the Exam Hall and a film show in the Sixth Form Centre. Both events were a sell out and were a testament to the quality of the events. I would like to thank FoBP for giving so much thought to the event and for making it so successful. We are very fortunate to have such supportive parents and I am looking forward to future events.

On Friday we had our Think Pink day that raised a significant amount of money for the Queen Sirikit Breast Cancer Foundation. Our student leaders in the Student Action Team planned the event with guidance from staff so that they had more ownership over the event. Not only did we have fun activities and a health conscious bake sale, to link in with our Health Challenge for November. Many students and staff also wore the student-designed Think Pink T-Shirts on Friday. We are all fortunate in having mothers, daughters, sisters, nieces and aunts in our lives and I am sure you will join me in congratulating the students on such a well-organised and important event.

On Tuesday we have our next parent workshop on ‘Post 16 Choices: IB versus A Levels’ and I would love to see many of you there again. I will give an honest overview of both systems and help you understand where our Sixth Form curriculum comes from and why we believe it offers an excellent foundation for study at University.

Please note that we have some important events coming up that you might want to add to your calendar.

  • Remembrance Day Assembly: Friday 9th November
  • International Week: 12th-16th November
  • Y11 Mock Exams: Monday 19th-Thursday 29th November (see FireFly for details)
  • Christmas Drama Production: Thursday 6th December
  • Celebrating a Spectacular Journey: Wednesday 12th December

Kind regards
